The caving bug first bit Lois in college, way back in 1979. She began caving in Texas, then visited caves in New Mexico, Arizona, Missouri, Mexico and France. Most of her caving is now done at Carlsbad Caverns National Park, where she is a regular volunteer, performing survey, restoration, and geologic inventory. A Fellow of the National Speleological Society and the Cave Research Foundation, Lois has published various articles on cave restoration and caving ethics. She assisted with the production of a cave film by NOVA for PBS, and appeared as a guest caver guide on the PBS series "Anyplace Wild."

Lois' award winning cave-inspired artwork has been exhibited in numerous venues in the United States and Europe, including France and the U.K. Her work is in various private collections and has appeared in publications by the National Park Service, the National Speleological Society, and others. Most recently, her work was displayed at the National Speleological Society's Fine Art Salon in Marengo, Indiana.
